Chelsea insists on settling a new deal during the current winter transfer window, after concluding 7 assignments this month.
Fabrizio Romano, an expert on the transfer market in Europe, said that Chelsea had reopened negotiations with Benfica to include Argentine Enzo Fernandez, Benfica’s midfielder.
Chelsea tried to include the player on more than one occasion after the World Cup ended, and he won the best young player award, but Benfica insisted on obtaining the full value of the penalty clause, “120 million euros.”
Romano wrote, on his Twitter account: “Benfica rejected an offer of 85 million euros a few weeks ago, but Chelsea have now returned to new talks and are open to making an offer of 120 million euros.”
He added, “Chelsea is obsessed with Enzo, and they want to sign him before the season ends, for fear of other clubs interested in obtaining his services.”
He concluded, “Rui Costa, Benfica’s president, has no intention yet to accept the offer, because he wants to keep Enzo, but Chelsea will insist until the end.”
