When I nominated myself for the position of Rapporteur on the Human Rights Committee in Parliament, I was competing against a tribal sheikh and a security officer. My fellow southern activist comrade voted for the northern sheikh. Today, that same activist is a top-tier leader in the Southern Transitional Council—bloated with privilege and demanding the secession of the South.

Some officials live by the saying, “One ear of clay, another of dough.” Their motto today seems to be: you say what you will, and we take what we want.

Raghda Al-Azraqi was someone I knew as upright, courageous, and strong. She was ousted from the Administrative Court in Sana’a because her integrity, courage, and sense of justice were worth a thousand judges. What are you doing to us, O Death? Have you allied yourself with the lords of injustice, corruption, and tyranny?

A professor who taught me first-year philosophy at the Law College in Aden became a member of Parliament. Today, he’s hauling gravel, and I’m dissecting philosophy.

Among the most important Yemeni parliamentarians, I hold one in the highest esteem. He has always supported me and stood by me at every stage, to this day. A rare example of loyalty—affectionate and sincere. He is my brother and friend, Nabeel Pasha.

He once said, “Who has time to read your writing?”
I replied, “A generation will come that reads and overthrows this reckless, despotic ignorance. For you, ignorance; for us, the future we adore.”

(7)

When injustice dominates us, and stupidity and ignorance rule us, we turn to artificial intelligence, finding within it justice, fairness, and intelligence. It reflects a fragment of the reality we live.

In Cairo, Aref Al-Masabi and I visited Ahmed Al-Marqashi, once known as the Dean of Southern Detainees in Sana’a. He suffered from both the North and the South. He resembles me, or perhaps I resemble him. Today, alone in his hospital, our conditions mirror each other.

It is as if this picture was taken to tell us something on the day of his departure. And I say now what can be said: he departed with a face filled with oppression, anger, and protest. May God envelop our friend Khalil Al-omri in His vast mercy.

The American doctor told me, “You’ll live with this heart for twenty-five years after the surgery.” I replied, “I only want to live two more years, just to see where Yemen is headed.”

(11)

A thousand get-well wishes to my comrade, my teacher, my brother, and my friend, Mohammed Alwan Thabet—the honorable activist, the respected self-made man, the upright hand, the school from which we learned and were shaped. May our Lord protect and heal you.
Death to the Death that spares tyrants, murderers, the corrupt, and thieves, while lying in wait for what remains of the honorable and righteous in a homeland that bleeds and dies every day.

Sunday morning, O Amin Al-Saidi.
Good morning, O noble human.
Your warmth exceeds all formalities and titles we are accustomed to using. You are greater than a professor or a sheikh. Before you and in your presence, all titles fall short. Every Sunday break, he would approach me and take me with him to the sea, a river, or a garden.

He would read the page of my face, safeguard me, and lighten my worries and sorrows. He never wearied or grew tired—generous, courageous, frank, loyal, and loving.

We disagreed, yet he always respected my opinions, convictions, and choices. He bore no grudges and harbored no resentment. Instead, he overflowed with affection, tolerance, and forgiveness. I have with him stories, stances, and memories that I will one day tell, as they deserve to be told.

Entisar Al-Hamadi paid a heavy price from her life and her freedom because she refused blackmail and submission. May you remain a symbol of the Yemeni woman standing against blackmail and the ugliness of authority. You will forever be a witness condemning the cruelty and coarseness of this dark era that violates the rights and freedoms of Yemeni women.

Friday morning, O human being.
May your morning be filled with joy and light, today and every day. All words of beauty fall short of expressing what stirs in my soul for you, O great ones. My friend Abdulwahab Al-Qadimi, the noble Al-Harazi—I still remember you welcoming me each day with a loving smile, warmth, and generosity that never diminished.

When many abandoned me, when the world grew dark before me, and my heart heavy with grief and illness, you and others stood by me. Greetings to you and all the beloved ones who supported me during my ordeal in New York and elsewhere.

I will not forget a single one of you. I am deeply grateful. I will write, with the ink of the heart you helped save, about each one of you. Your beauty will remain unforgettable as long as I live.

In the past, they used to fabricate charges. Today, they no longer bother. It is the consolidation of tyranny, if not tyranny itself.

Freedom for Dr. A’idh Al-Sayyadi and for all those forcibly hidden and unjustly detained.

(16)

One day he speaks of “national partnership,” and the next day he wakes early to imprison you.

My full solidarity goes to Brother Ghazi Ahmed Al-Ahwal, Secretary-General of the General People’s Congress, Brother Dr. Rami Abdulwahab Mahmoud, member of the Central Command of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, and to all those forcibly hidden and wronged in repressive prisons.

To those faithful ones, my people, my family, whom I loved and who loved me in New York—I long for you, I miss you, I love you all. The rest is mere detail.

We came, confronting our fears, to stand in solidarity with Civil Airline Captain Mohammed Al-Mutawakel against the blatant manufacture of hatred, racism, sectarianism, and rashness. And we returned to stand in solidarity with ourselves against the fabrication of absurd charges.

What I learned in Sana’a while following up on the release of some detainees is that twenty-four hours of detention there equal forty-five days elsewhere. They find detention easy, and extending it even easier. They have lost all sense of time and all empathy for the suffering of detainees.

Six months there equal forty-eight hours elsewhere.

And worse still, solitary confinement there is routine, often lasting several months. Most importantly, no one leaves their custody innocent, and the word “mistake” does not exist in their dictionary.

(21)

Injustices have multiplied in our land to the point that we no longer know which one to write about, for they inscribe themselves in their own blood. Hatred has peaked, carving its deformities and grudges deep into our daily lives, while our people pay the price every day.

Majed Zayed, that gentle soul, was arrested, and they refuse to release him. Many detainees have been freed, and we had hoped Majed would be among them, especially since no charges have been filed against him.

The specialist doctor in the Security Apparatus even recommended his release due to his critical health condition. I appeal to the Head of the National Security Bureau and urge those obstructing his release to act with at least a minimum of responsibility and humanity, away from stubbornness and personal grudges. Release him on humanitarian and legal grounds that demand it.

I left America despite my heart surgeon’s recommendation not to travel before November 28, 2025. On the plane, I experienced a brief paralysis-like episode that lasted several seconds.

Upon arrival, I noticed several spots on my body. I do not know whether they are related to the long flight, my medications, or my decision to disregard the doctor’s advice not to travel before the recommended date.
