AQAP suspects kill 17 soldiers in Abyan
YEMENAT–Twin ambushes attacks killed 17 soldiers in Lawder of Abyan, Southern of Yemen, on Friday, officials said.
Suspected Al-Qaeda militants likely to be behind the separate attacks.
In the first ambush, militants targeted a military convoy in Lawder town, killing 12 soldiers and injured 6 others. T
he security services accused the AQAP of being behind the ambush and said that a security campaign has been pursued them.
The second occurred in Amain town of Lawder as militants bombed an official procession including the commander of Brigade 111 and the Secretary General of Lawder « s local Council, who were traveling there, resulting in killing at least 4 and injuring 4 others, among of them the commander of Brigade 111, Muhsin Juzailan.
The army shelled a nearby mountain of Ated in Amslamiah, in which al-Qaeda fighters believed to be hosted.
According to local sources, the shelling injured a woman and two children and caused minor damage to homes of civilians near the place of the bombing. Lawder experienced fierce clashes between al-Qaeda suspects and security forces last year, killing dozens and displacing hundreds of the residents.
