Security detains 35 in Taiz for anti-president calls

Taiz- Security authorities have arrested more than 35 young people due to their participation in peaceful demonstrations that swept Taiz yesterday and this morning, a number of detainees « families reported that the security bodies has raided their houses early this morning and arrested their sons. Also witnesses said some of the detainees were beaten and mistreated in police stations where they were captured. The detainees announced hunger strike in protest against the abuses they have suffered.
Accordingly a human rights committees was formed to follow up the status of detainees and work to release them, the committees include MPs, partisan leaders, media and political activists, representatives of human rights organizations and different unions. The committees are now working to establish communication with the security authorities and leaders of Taiz governorate in order to release these young people.

The committees confirmed that the Governor of Taiz and the head of security have ordered the release of detainees this afternoon and refer three people to the Public Prosecutor for further investigation.
