Serbian PM responds to Washington call not to send troops to Kosovo

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has called the call by US envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar that Serbia not send security forces to the province of Kosovo as an invitation to violate UN Security Council resolutions.

Bernabecz wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: “I see my friend as another politician who is strongly opposed to existing UN Security Council resolutions.”

“He assumed the role of the UN Security Council and with one voice with the German Foreign Ministry and Minister of Calm von Kramon, also known as the European Parliament’s rapporteur on Kosovo, repealed UN Security Council Resolution 1244.”

“Will other international resolutions and conventions, including the UN Charter, remain in force?” she asked.

“Or do we have to follow the horoscope predictions so that we understand your desires and help keep the world at peace? Thank you for your time, and I can imagine how busy you are when you run the world instead of the United Nations.”

US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, visited Pristina on Tuesday, where he met Albin Kurti, the prime minister of Kosovo province who unilaterally declared his secession from Serbia. He is also scheduled to visit Belgrade.

The visit comes against the backdrop of Serbian authorities announcing plans to request NATO mission to send up to a thousand Serbian military and police personnel to Kosovo amid tensions between Serbs and Albanians in the province.

Escobar called on Serbia to abandon the move even though UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on a settlement in Kosovo allows it.
