Yemen: Islah-affiliated group attacks CCYR’s activist
The chairman of the preparatory committee of the civic coalition for Youth Revolution based in Hodeida (CCYR-H), Rashad Abdalssafi was attacked by Islah-affiliated group and bet, following last Friday prayer Feb 17, at Hodeida change square.
The Abdalssafi told Yemenat Website that while he was distributing the papers of release statement of the civic coalition of Youth Revolution on the incoming election boycotting, ten people of Islah started beating, insulting, kicking him, use of white weapon and forced him to give them the remaining close to 300 papers. He suffered scratches over his body.
The attackers accused him as well as the CCYR-H with agency to the Houthis for once and to Saleh regime for another. He described the attack as criminal, as it came from colleagues at the peaceful protests, and as violating freedom of speech and opinion and right of expressing such boycotting election.
The CCYR-H members held a meeting at the square, issuing a statement of condemnation and held the leadership of square accountable for such attacks.
A number of independent and non-Islah revolution activists had already been attacked at several change squares, mainly the Sanaa, Taiz and Hodeida-based, by gunmen affiliated to Islah party.
Worth mentioning is that the preparatory committee of the CCYR chairman, Ahmed Saif Hashed was also attacked at Sanaa square, by an Islah-affiliated armed group, which, first, prevented him from entering the square, then attacked him at Iwan hotel where he resided. It is the orders of withdraw from the security committee that precluded breaking the door. Hashed was death threatened by the gunmen and accused him with agency and work for the national security.
The CCYR is a Yemen-based civil movement includes 52 alliances of revolutionary youth activists around Yemen of about 12, 000 members. It was founded in March, 2011, by a liberal group contributed in major role in launching the uprising against the autocratic regime of President Saleh to maintain revolutionary blocs and individuals struggle for a democratic modern civil state. It was initiated by Mr. Ahmed Saif Hashed, a human rights activist and Independent Member of the House of Representatives.
It aims at establishing a modern civil & democratic state that positively reacts with modernization on the basis of equal citizenship, human rights, international human rights treaties, social justice, political pluralism, freedom of expression and opinion and peaceful transition of power.
