Yemen: Peaceful Revolution Salvation Front calls for boycott Feb 21 Election

Peaceful Revolution Salvation Front (PRSF),

While the change and freedom squares across the country chant against offering immunity to Saleh and demand him be prosecuted for all the crimes he committed throughout his office term, the political elite and parties continues imposing a corroded political project as a national solution, in response to pressure and interests of the allied forces.

The current parties of the power approach exclusive practices, starting with an attempted revolution abortion  and ending with violating civilian human rights, and imposing an election lacking minimum of democratic criteria, which, as we assess, makes no difference from Salehs regime if not worse for the latter could not dare a single candidate election without any political competitive criteria.

There are many reasons behind such a boycott , including the following:

• The majority of the people of Yemen opposes the immunity granted to Saleh and his loyalists, considering such election as an attempt to impose law of immunity through a fabricated election and a referendum on this law.
• The election is not legitimate for they are not democratic, as the candidate is single, depriving citizens from nominating and electing a president as they desire.
• The election will be held under a parliament that has been illegitimate for ages, and majority of its members are affiliates of the former regime for which the revolution took place as being the major challenge facing the modern civil democratic state project ,therefore the parliament should be legitimate to have the right to take decision and to give legitimacy to the presidential election, otherwise the election is illegitimate.
• The illegitimacy of the election and parliament will lead to an illegitimate president, which will lead the power to support its illegitimate position of dedicating such a power through managing the country by crisis. The power would be unable to offer the national issues workable solutions and the national project would change to power protection project, which would necessitate alliance with other parties and forces at expense of other national forces and exploiting the religion, the tribe and the army to serve and protect interests of the power, which was experienced under former regime by people of Yemen.
• The existing power performance and resistance to hold an election in such a manner aims at implementing a political compromise among limited number of parties and absolutely do not express interests of all Yemenis, rather it is a danger to the national interests as it contradicts values of democracy, freedom, equality and justice that is the cornerstone of modern democratic state.
• It is a real challenge to go ahead with such election that lacks democratic procedures, and the more dangerous is the fact that it can repeat such a violation to serve interests of special forces at the expense of national interests of all Yemenis.
• The political parties agreement to confine candidacy at the parliament to one candidate, even if the parliament be legitimate, is a big violation, not only this but also they would find themselves obliged to annul judiciary and the constitutional court to avoid challenging the illegitimacy of the election with the single candidate, a danger that these parties would not avoid if they insisted that the election be imposed, which would force all Yemenis to pay expensively in the near future if not nearer.
• Many, including the joint meeting parties themselves, complain that electors registers have errors, being counterfeited and was a major reason behind previous elections shortcomings.
• The deputy (Abdrabo Mansour)as well as the reconciliated government and the political parties have achieved little since Gulf initiative deal signing and power transfer, and there is no even a touch on the passive assessment of such event, yet on the contrary there an increase in challenges facing modern civil democratic Yemen based on real democracy and participation of all people of Yemen in national dialogue, decision making and the power.

The PRSF, on the basis of above mentioned reasons,  declares boycotting the so-called presidential election and call all citizen to do so, as it lack legitimacy of the revolution and of the constitution, contradicting values of democracy, freedom and equal citizenship that we advocate to be major pillars of a new Yemen.

We call all patriotic boycotting partners to coordinate and implement all peaceful events opposing the election, confirming peacefulness, effectiveness of these events and that freedom of the loyalists to the election be respected.

We confirm also that the boycott is not only moral, its forgone results do not represent us, advocating right of all boycotting citizens to refuse  its effectiveness and support another election based on the following:

• An elected parliament representing the peoples desire, with legitimacy that entitles national decision making process
• Give all national forces opportunity to participate fairly compete in elections
• All rivals in presidential elections should be subject to national criteria and be effective and honest enough to manage the country
• Effective legal, political and social national mechanisms to monitor elections and protect voting.

The parties and forces participating in the existing power depended on violate the constitution and renunciate from revolution legitimacy that enabled them to reach office, and on justify its errors, impose real situation in addition to adopting policies of frightening, accusing with disloyalty, eliminating other national parties and crisis investment. It these reasons on which the fronts attitude is built, and it is not a passive one.

The PRSF, given such a refusal attitude, calls all forces and national parties, including the participant on the current power, for the following:

• Recognize the revolution, with adherence to its goals and the modern democratic state as a national dialogue document binding to all parties
• Political parties abiding by political contract with the citizens it represents and rise ceiling of the national right binding it to represent civilian interests to limit surrender to pressures and interests of internal and external forces at expense of the national interests
• Political parties abiding by the content of its political speech and decisions it adopted for decades as a political and national dialogue that stipulates democracy, freedom and institutionalize the state by transparency and good governance
• Political parties review of its performance and work towards correcting its errors committed throughout past period, to confess these errors and to review, rephrase political compromise as a top priority
• Confirming basic rights of each citizen guaranteed by being a citizen and a man, and right to freedom, justice, entertainment as well as obligation of political power to protect these rights stipulated by world treaties and that the revolution adhered to, inquiring the violating agents
• Work in parallel to review political and institutional performance and bring the accused to prosecution in coincidence with further dialogue and partnership to include all parties towards a real national reconciliation.

The PRSF renews adherence with the revolution legitimacy and achieving its goals, calling all parties to support the new democratic Yemen it has adopted and to be guided by the world human rights declaration.
